10:22am: The top 3 women are thorugh the transition area and onto the run. Morrison has a big lead with Smith being aprox 2 1/2 mins down. Lee trials Smith by aprox. 1 1/2 mins.
10:16am: Coming up to the end of the bike Morrison still leads with a strong gap with Smith trailing in second.
10:07am: Morrison still leads on the bike.
9:21am: Morrison and Smith in the lead, working together. Smith swaps into the lead positon to take a turn in the front.
9:07am: Morrison is through the transition area and is on the bike course.
9:05am Morrison (GBR) still leads the run section of the course. Smith (CAN) follows.
8:44am: The women come through and begin the 2nd lap of the run. Catriona Morrison (GBR) looks strong while she leads the leading group.

8:14am: Spence (USA) takes the Junior Women's gold, Sweetland (CAN) silver and Brault (CAN) claiming the bronze.

TRI-FEST 2006 has started its second week of events with the ever-popular BMO Financial Group Downtown Dash. The last single-sport event on the schedule was a huge success with a very large number of athletes taking part. There were especially large numbers for the 5 km downtown dash, with 153 competitors. Although the dark clouds covered Corner Brook’s skies, the rain stayed away long enough for the races to finish.

The Corner Brook BG Triathlon World Cup was a spectacular event on Sunday, July 23rd. The day showed a fabulous turnout of spectators and volunteers, despite overcast skies. Everyone came with smiles to cheer on their favourite athletes.

The Sir Richards Squires Parking lot was buzzing with excitement today as TRI-FEST 2006 celebrated the 25th Annual Corner Brook Triathlon. The women were first to dip into the Glynmill Pond on Sunday morning at 7:00 a.m., while the men braved the 22 degree waters at 7:30 a.m. The Sprint, Super-Sprint and Team participants dove off the swim pontoon at 8:00 a.m.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Corner Brook Triathlon, but it is also signifies the end of an era. The Corner Brook Triathlon Committee 2006 will be hosting its final BG Triathlon World Cup this Sunday, after nine consecutive years on the international Olympic qualifying circuit.

One week from now Corner Brook will transform into the “Triathlon Capital of Canada” with athletes arriving from all over the world to compete in the various events of TRI-FEST 2006! The Corner Brook Triathlon Committee is busy getting everything ready for 10 full days of multi-sport festivities. The water temperature of the Glynmill Inn pond is being tested, barricades are out, billboards are posted, and athletes are starting to arrive to begin training on Corner Brook’s tough terrain.

To create this world-class event, Tri-Fest depends on its outstanding volunteers to ensure safe, fair races and memorable experiences for our athletes. This is noteworthy for Corner Brook, as triathlon was added to the Olympic Programme in 2000, creating only four gold medallists to date. K-ROCK Kids of Steel has always been a great success and very educational for young kids who want to learn more about the fundamentals of triathlon. TRI-FEST is hosting a new event this year. The National Junior and Under 23 Sprint Triathlon is taking place on July 23 starting at 10 a.m. The Development Series will provide National Junior and U23’s with elite race experience, preparing them for a highly competitive future in triathlon racing. These athletes will get a taste of what’s to come when competing in Corner Brook, which is one of the five cross-Canada Development Series events.
